U.S. Maintenance Window for: May 23, 2012 Disruption in CR, XE, FTP services: ALL Approximate duration of disruption: 3 Hours
Japan Maintenance Window for: TBD Disruption in CR, XE, FTP services: TBD Approximate duration of disruption: TBD
The Catalyst data centers hold hundreds of servers loaded with a variety of software packages along with numerous other network devices (load balancers, storage devices, firewalls, routers, etc.) All of them need upgrading and maintenance work periodically.
While our goal is to provide continuous service to our clients, we are required regularly to interrupt services for maintenance and upgrades.
Here is our policy for maintenance windows:
Regular Maintenance Window
We reserve a regular maintenance window every Wednesday evening/Thursday morning from 11PM to 2AM MT (1AM to 4AM ET, Thursday, 10PM to 1AM PT Wednesday/Thursday).
This window can be used for a variety of purposes including software and hardware upgrades, system additions, file system maintenance, etc.
In many cases the maintenance work will not cause service interruptions. In others, products may be inaccessible briefly or for the entire maintenance window. It simply depends on the nature of the work being done.
When service interruption is expected during a maintenance window, our policy is to place a notice on the application (CR or XE) advising the user of the maintenance window and that service interruptions are to be expected. When the maintenance window does not involve service interruptions, we don't issue a notice to users.
We may initiate a maintenance window at a different day and time if circumstances require it. Typically this would occur on a weekend during the late evening and early morning. It would occur if, for whatever reason, work couldn't be scheduled during the regular maintenance window, or the work took longer than the regular maintenance window allows. This is a fairly rare occurrence.
In such a case, we will try to provide 48-hours notice to site administrators and place a banner on the sites to advise users.
Emergency Maintenance Windows
We reserve the right to conduct emergency maintenance windows at any time, with or without notice. Emergency maintenance windows are extremely rare and would only be initiated if there were an unexpected issue causing problems with our service.
If we declare an Emergency Maintenance Window, we will provide notice on the sites (if possible) and email notifications to site administrators.
